Denis CRETON MDHe has published numerous articles in surgical and medical journals.

This site was created to present the surgeons and phlebologist what it seemed to be the most important knowledge about varicose vein disease and especially actual treatment of varicose vein. The aim of this site is also to help the patients for understanding surgical procedures eg : varicose vein surgery, day surgery, local anaesthesia and for being cool before the operation.

He presented his clinical experiences first to the 10th meeting of the International Union of Phlebology in Strasbourg, 1989 ; 11th meeting of the International Union of Phlebology, Montréal - Canada, 1992 ; Second European Congress on Ambulatory Surgery, Brussels - Belgium, 1993 ; Annual Meeting of the French Society of Ambulatory Phlebectomy, Neuilly, 1989 ; Annual Meeting of the French Society of Vascular Surgery, Nancy, 1990 ; Annual Meeting of the French Society of Phlebology, Paris, 1990 ; Annual Meeting of the French College of Vascular Surgery, North West Region, Hardelot, 1994. He was an invited discussant on Ambulatory Surgery in Basel - Switzerland, 1991 ; Capri - Italy, 1991 ; Florence - Italy, 1994 ; and a Guest lecturer at the Italian Society of Phlebology Surgery and Sclerotherapy, Modena - Italy, 1996 ; at the National Medical Congress of Cycle, Nancy, 1992 ; at the French Section of International College of Surgeons where he talked about loco-regional anaesthesia, Amiens, 1995 ; Guest lecturer at the Annual Meeting organised by Pitié Salpetrière Hospital, Paris, 1996 about stripping topic and Guest lecturer at the 100th session of the French Association of Surgery, Paris, 1998.

His experience in ultra-sound selective surgery was presented at the French Society of Phlebology, Paris, 1993; at the Annual Congress of Sfaumb, Nancy, 1994 and at the 12th Congress of the International Union of Phlebology, London, 1995.

He was an invited discussant on ultra-sound Doppler mapping at the 9th National Congress of AFFCA, Versailles, 1993 and at the 5th National Congress of AFFCA, Lille, 1996.

His experience on varicose vein recurrence surgery was presented first at the 12th Congress of the International Union of Phlebology, London, 1995 ; International Congress of Phlebology, Corfu - Greece, 1996 ; the 3rd North Sea Meeting on Venous Disease, Bruges - Belgium, 1997 ; 12th Meeting of the French Society of Ambulatory Phlebectomy, Lausanne - Switzerland, 1995 ; Annual meeting of the French Society of Phlebology, Paris, 1998 ; During the International Consensus Meeting (Revas) he was Chairman for the reflexion group focussed on treatment of varicose vein recurrence and member of the group focussed on the clinical evaluation of recurrent varicose vein (Revas) Paris, 1998. He was invited to talk about the neovascularisation explaining the responsibility of the surgeon in varicose vein recurrences at the Hungarisch Meeting of phlebology in Budapest (Hungary) in 2008.

He has organised many personal surgical workshops since 1988 at the centre he works and has received surgeons coming from all over Europe Countries and U.S.A.

He was interested in cosmetic results in venous surgery and explained his experience in “Treatment of ulcers and esthetical surgery too” at the French Society of Phlebology, Paris 1999.

He worked on the treatment and prevention of recurrences after surgery of the great saphenous vein and presented his results for the first time in Zurich in 1999 at the annual meeting of the Swiss Society of Phlebology as well as in Montreux (Switzerland), in 2000 where he got an award for this work and received the annual prize of the Swiss Society of Phlebology and Angiology.

This work was also presented at the European Venous Forum and at the International Union of Phlebology, Rome (Italy), 2001 and at the meeting of the European Society of Phlebectomy, Prague (Czechoslovakia), 2001.

His experience in the treatment of the short saphenous vein insufficiency was first presented at the International Union of Phlebology, Bremen (Germany), 1999; then at the German Society of Phlebology, Bonn (Germany), 2000; at the Congresso European Club Doppler, Rome (Italy), 2000; at the Iberian Club Doppler, Saragossa (Spain), 2001; at the International Phlebology Meeting, Parma (Italy), 2002; at the Journées Internationales d'Angéiologie, Paris, in 2001; at the French Society of Phlebology, Paris, 2001 and at the Annual French Meeting of Surgery, Paris, 2002.

He was one of the first members of the European Group interested in endovascular treatment of the saphenous trunk with the Closure® procedure. He started to develop this technique in 1998 and presented the first results at the Congrés du Collège Français de Pathologie Vasculaire, Paris, 2000; at the French Society of Vascular Surgery , Nice, 2001 ; at the Swiss Society of Phlebology, St Gallen, (Switzerland), 2002; at the Congrès “Techniques et Stratégies Interventionnelles en Pathologie Vasculaire”, Paris, 2002 ; at the European Society of Phlebectomy, Paris, 2003 and at the Ultrasound Meeting, Fermo (Italy), 2003 ; he presented the results at 5 year-follow up at the French Society of Phlebology in Paris in 2006.

He was a member of the teaching manager board of the International School of Venous Surgery whose aim is to provide the attendees with complete data in order to perform an up-to-date venous surgery after a short training period. This teaching includes two different parts:
1/ workshops: intensive and interactive, theoretical and technical training on a predefined theme, with multimedia supports
2/ attendance as a surgeon's shadow, throughout the teacher's professional activities: practical teaching in real situation.
The first advanced venous Surgery Intensive Workshop (lectures and courses) was held in Paris in 2002.

Denis CRETON MDAfter starting Endovenous Laser Treatment in 1998 he worked on the comparison between Endovenous Laser Treatment and Radiofrequency Obliteration. He presented his first opinions at the Congresso Nationale Ultrasoni E Apparato Circulatorio in Fermo (Italia) in 2003 ; at the third meeting of the GELEV group in Strasbourg in 2004 ; at the First International Congress of Phlebology in Parma (Italy) in 2006 ; at the Curso International Sobre Insuficiencia Venosa Cronica in the Hospital Ruber International in Madrid (Spain) in 2004 and at the Annual III Universitar Congress of Phlebology and Lymphology at the Pontifical Catholica Universita of Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 2006 and at the annual Meeting of the European Society of Phlebectomy, in Genève (Switzerland) in 2007.

He was interested in the treatment by embolization of the pelvic venous insufficiency in women and presented his works at the French Society of Phlebology in Paris in 2004. He was invited to present his results at the Union International of Phlebology in 2005 in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and at the Annual III Universitar Congress of Phlebology and Lymphology at the Pontificia Universitad Catolica Argentina of Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 2006, at the American Venous Forum in San Diego (USA) in 2007 and at the 2nd International Meeting of Phlebology, in Parma (Italy) in 2008.

He was one of the first French vascular surgeons who began using echo-guided peroperative foam sclerotherapy. He presented his first results at the French Society of Phlebology in Paris, in 2004 and 2005; at the International Congress of Phlebology and Lymphology in Bologna (Italy) in 2005; at the Technical Forum of the French Society of Vascular Surgery in Arcachon in 2006 and at the Annual III Universitar Congress of Phlebology and Lymphology at the Pontificia Universitad Catolica Argentina of Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 2006. Regarding this technique he was invited to write a chapter in 2 books edited by Masson and the French Society of Vascular Surgery. He was invited to talk about the peroperative foam sclerotherapy at the British Association of Sclerotherapist in London (UK), at the European Phlebo Club in London Ashridge in 2007, at the 59th Francophone International Meeting of Angiology in Paris in 2007, and at the Mediterranean Congress of Vascular Surgery in Nice in 2008.

Simultaneously he continues to be teaching invited guest in several Societies and Universities: Teaching College of Vascular Surgery in Paris, French Society of Vascular Surgery in Arcachon and Pontificia Universitad Catolica Argentina of Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 2006.

He was invited guest lecturer in the Hospital Ruber International in Madrid (Spain) in 2003 and 2004; in the Pontifical Catholica Universita of Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 2006.

He was one of the founding members of the Venous Group of the French Society of Vascular Surgery the aim of which was to teach venous surgery and trained young vascular surgeon. He participated in surgical training, operation demonstration and echo-Doppler training in Marseille and in Strasbourg in 2008.

He has for a long while many scientific responsibilities in the publication of medical journal. He was reviewer and member of the editorial board for the “Journal of Phlebology”. He is consultant and reviewer for the journal “Angeiologie”, for the journal “Phlebologie Annale Vasculaire” and reviewer for the “European Journal of Vascular Endovascular Surgery”. He is contributing Editor to “International Venous Digest” and member of the reviewer committee for “Phlebol Digest”.

He never stopped continuing to work for improving the traditional stripping. His aim was always to improve the peroperative and postoperative comfort and to reduce the postoperative pain. He presented his works and opinions at the French Society of Phlebology in Paris in 2004, 2005 at the Controversies and Updates in Vascular Surgery in Paris in 2006, at the French Meeting of Vascular Pathology in Paris in 2007, at the Techniques and Innovations in Vascular Surgery in Paris in 2007. With other colleagues he developed the revolutionary concept of the unnecessary flush ligation and the concept of “doing less to do better ». This concept was developed for the first hand surgery at the meeting of the French Society of Phlebology in Paris and for the recurrences at the Hungarisch Meeting of Phlebology in Budapest (Hungary) in 2008.

He was one of the first French members of the European Group interested in radiofrequency ablation of the saphenous trunk using the new catheter ClosureFast. He presented the first result at the annual Meeting of the European Venous Forum in Istanbul (Turquie) in 2006, at the French Society of Phlebology in Paris in 2007, at the French Society of Vascular Surgery in Lyon in 2007 and 2008 and at the American Venous Forum in Lauderdale (USA) in 2008.
